Submarine Entertainment and HanWay Films said at AFM Wednesday that New Video has acquired U.S. DVD and digital rights to Robert Weide's Woody Allen: A Documentary, and Films We Like has acquired Canadian rights.
Submarine has also sold the film to American Masters and PBS TV to air the film in two parts on Nov. 20 and 21. And Jaguar Distribution has bought worldwide airline rights.
HanWay is marketing the film, executive produced by Michael Peyser, Brett Ratner, Fisher Stevens, Andrew Karsch, Erik Gordon and Susan Lacy, to international buyers at AFM.
With unprecedented access to notoriously private filmmaker Allen, Weide looks at his life and creative process.
"Although a comedy and film icon, Allen as a person remains a mystery to so many of his fans," said Mark Kashden, vp of acquisitions at New Video. "The time is right for a retrospective, and director and subject are a perfect match."
